SAP Programs
Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)-The goal of this drug prevention co-curricular club is to provide students with healthy alternatives to lifestyle choices. S.A.D.D. is dedicated to addressing the issues of underage drinking, impaired driving, drug use, sexual relations, dating violence, and other destructive decisions and killers of young people.
TATU (Teens Against Tobacco Use) -This role model based prevention club is designed for trained high school students to branch out into junior highs and commmunity to educate students about the dangers of tobacco use.
The goal of this drug prevention co-curricular club is to provide viable and effective support for all students through a structured process of peer mediation and peer counseling. Trained student peer helpers give appropriate feedback and encouragement that helps peers choose positive ways to take care of themselves. Students are nominated in late fall and interviewed thereafter.
This program is designed to help students settle conflicts through peaceable resolutions. This program teaches students to view conflict as a natural part of life. Trained student mediators teach students to solve their own problems through improved communication, critical thinking and negotiation skills.
Peer Mentoring East Teen Partying and The Law Publication Snowball -This is a weekend retreat run by students with adult supervision. It provides an opportunity for teens to learn more about themselves, their families and their peers. The weekend promotes personal and interpersonal growth, leadership skills and healthy decision making. Guest speakers and teen staff make presentations on teen selected topics such as self-esteem , dealing with stress and drug prevention.
Parent University/Parent Education- Throughout the school year, the core team along with in touch provides forums for parents and community members to receive current information on drug violence prevention issues and general parenting topics.
-Students who participate in athletics and activities are responsible for attending a code of conduct meeting with their parents. Students must agree to abide by school rules twelve months per year, representing LWHS in a positive manner.
Operation Snowflake/Snowflurry-LWHS students role model for junior high and elementary schools during their drug/alcohol prevention event designed to empower area students to lead drug free lives. The day includes discussion of drug/alcohol information, responsible leadership and decision-making, enhancing self-esteem and positive peer support.
Staff Development-Throughout the school year, faculty and staff have several opportunities to hear professionals from the community speak on a variety of topics related to substance abuse and addiction.
D.A.R.E.-LWHS student role models join forces with local police officers and visit community middle schools or grade schools to talk about how to maintain a healthy, drug and alcohol free lifestyle.
