Building Trades Program Application

The Building Trades program is a one or two year program where a single-family dwelling is constructed off campus. Students who take this course will be taking a rigorous and physical course, which is designed to prepare students for the second level course, or entry-level employment. The students start in the fall building the deck, and wall framing. By Christmas the house will be enclosed and electrical, drywall, plumbing and heating will be completed. In the spring, painting, trim work and finish electrical will be done completing the house in one year. Additional course information is found in the student’s handbook.

This program will give a student a tremendous advantage by possibly being able to enroll in an apprentice program or full time employment after completion. The school will invest over $200,000.00 into a home that the students will build. The students and their parents need to know that the school will not tolerate any inappropriate behavior. Students are expected to display appropriate work-place behavior and attitudes at all times. If a major problem does develop, the student may be removed from the program with loss of credit.

This program is worth 3 credits for each Building Trades 1 and 2 programs.
