Community Service
Deadline: Friday, May 16, 2008.
NO EXCEPTIONS!
The American Civics course of Lincoln-Way High School offers the student an introduction into civic responsibility through its community service project. Every junior at Lincoln-Way East and Lincoln-Way Central is required to take American Civics and complete a community service project. Each student in the program is required to set aside four (4) hours during the semester to help the community. Click on the "links" button to view the websites of pre-approved non-profit organizations for community service opportunities. These organizations welcome the Lincoln-Way students because of their hard work and vitality that they demonstrate while completing needed tasks. Although some students did not think they would enjoy this experience at first, nearly all students believe it is a worthwhile thing to do and they plan on doing more volunteer work in the future. Thus, by exposing students to these activities, the American Civics teachers believe that it not only helps participating organizations now, but will continue to help them in the future. Accordingly, society as a whole will benefit through the active participation of Lincoln-Way Civics students.
