Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) driving is designed to teach decision-making and practical application skills in various traffic situations. In the BTW phase of driver education, we hope to fuse together the content taught in the classroom, with practice driving. It is in this phase of the program that a students will benefit from their practice driving experiences with their parents or driving coach. Without this essential practice time, it will be difficult to produce a skilled roadway user in six hours of BTW.
Once a student has completed driver education, the learning process and practice should not end. As with many skills, the more practice we receive, the more competent we become. Parents or driving coaches should still spend quality practice time with the students behind the wheel.
