When can a student enroll in driver education?
The classroom phase of driver education is taught through the student's physical education class. Students are selected for the classroom each quarter. The classroom is 9 weeks in duration. After completion of the course, the student returns to their physical education class. The selection of students is according to BIRTHDATE. The older students will have driver education first.
When can a student take BTW (Behind the wheel)?
BTW can only be scheduled after the student has successfully earned a passing grade in the classroom. Once the course is completed, the students are arranged according to BIRTHDATE, and availability. Instructors are given students (in BIRTHDATE order) to drive upon request. The instructors will contact the student in person or by phone to set up a schedule for BTW.
Does BTW count toward the 25-Hour form?
No. The 25-hour form must be completed by a parent or guardian outside of school.
How long is the BTW phase?
The state requirement for behind-the-wheel driving is six (6) total hours. If the student has, and successfully passed range, the requirement may be reduced to 4 hours.
What is Range?
Range is a phase of driver education that gives the students an understanding of basic car controls, and maneuvers. During range the students will be with one partner, and drive through a specified course in the parking lot. Range is also according to BIRTHDATE order. All students will NOT have range.
What is a blue slip and when will a student receive it?
Lincoln-Way will send for a blue slip upon successful completion of BTW. The school will receive it by mail, the instructor will sign it, then send it by mail to the parent and student.
