What is Air Force Junior ROTC?
The Air Force Junior ROTC program provides citizenship training and an aerospace science program for high school students. The curriculum is a balance of 40 percent aerospace science and 40 percent leadership education, and 20% physical fitness. Classes are taught by retired Air Force commissioned and non-commissioned officers. Classroom study includes the heritage of flight and navigation, aerospace vehicles, rocketry, propulsion, space travel, and aviation careers. Students are also introduced to military customs and courtesies, flag etiquette, basic drill and ceremonies, management, human relations, and communications. Many military-related field trips are included in the program. There is a community service component which helps instill a sense of civic pride and leadership. Additionally, weekly Air Force style uniform wear and grooming standards apply.
