  • Teach your children about their heritage.
  • Go as a family to events that celebrate different cultures and religions.
  • Include traditions from many cultures in your family celebrations.
  • Create a family environment that encourages positive discussions about difference.
  • Expose your children to many kinds of people.
  • Encourage your child to get a pen pal from a different country.
  • Check yourself for subtle racist attitudes, biases, or prejudices and work to overcome them.
  •  Model acceptance and appreciation of differences.  Don’t tolerate racism, bias, or prejudice.
  • Educate teachers and other staff about respecting and working with cultural differences.
  • Include the accomplishments and thinking of diverse peoples in all subjects.  Incorporate information from many cultures into the curriculum.
  • Provide activities that increase students’ awareness and acceptance of differences.
  • Give students opportunities to share and celebrate their own heritage.
  • Include the images and voices of a variety of people in community publications, advertisements, posters and promotional materials.

  • Include information and traditions from many cultures in religious education classes and worship services.
  • Invite members of other congregations to join you for special celebrations and events.
