Selected Art Studio/Graphic Design I

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS: Elective. Meets one-half of the fine arts graduation requirement.
COURSE SEQUENCE: Successful completion of Art Fundamentals.
OTHER PREREQUISITES: None.
STUDENT AND STAFF ORGANIZATION: Conventional. Emphasis on individual and small group work.
COURSE OVERVIEW: Graphic Design I will give the student a better insight into the practices and techniques of visual advertising and communication. A variety of media will be used. Emphasis will be placed on professionalism, creativity and execution in designing various aspects of media identify such as typography, corporate logo design and magazine layout. A major portion of the course will be devoted to practical application whereby the student will progress step-by-step through the projects designing all aspects including idea, layout, typography, artwork, and final execution. The course will help prepare the student interested in pursuing a field in any of the numerous areas of graphic design. Students will have to pay for some materials. Curriculum Guide

COURSE SEQUENCE: Successful completion of Art Fundamentals and Graphic Design I.

COURSE OVERVIEW: Graphic Design II is a continuation of the Graphic Design I curriculum with more emphasis on technical expertise in working with a variety of media. Students will further explore typography, package design and illustration. Computer programs such as Adobe Pagemaker and Photoshop may be utilized. This course is highly recommended for the student who plans a career in the field of graphic design. Students will have to pay for some materials.
