Lincoln-Way Community High School
Mathematics Department – Algebra 1
Unit 5 - EXPONENTIAL RELATIONSHIPS
Enduring Understanding:
An exponential situation is present in everyday life anywhere from demographics to finances.

Essential Questions:

  • What aspects of linear situations are similar to and different from exponential situations?
  • How is growth different from decay?
  • Why are rules important in life and how do we use them in Mathematics?

Target Goals:

The students will be able to:
Graph an exponential function
Understand rules of exponents
Understand Growth and Decay; Compound Interest
Scientific notation
Indirect Variation- Algebraically and Graphically.

Assessment:

  • Classify graphs of various functions with the aid of a graphing calculator.
  • Match exponential equations to their graphs.
  • Daily Observations and homework
  • Various Quizzes and Tests

Activities:

  • Walk the Line—represents graphs physically (CBR activity)
  • M&M Activity – Exponential Activity
State Goals:
