Unit 9 - PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS
Enduring Understanding:
Reading newspapers and financial reports can be better understood by using various methods of data interpretation.

Essential Questions:

  • How will statistics affect your life?
  • How can statistics guide you in making better decisions?
  • How can statistics help you to predict possible outcomes?

Target Goals:

The student will be able to:
  • display and interpret data on line, bar and circle graphs
  • compute mean, median, mode and range
  • compute probability and odds of a simple event

Assessment:

  • Paper and pencil tests with multiple-choice and open-ended questions.
  • Project where students will collect data and apply all statistical concepts of the unit. ie: Students will make a poster with one type of graph including mean, median, mode and range and a paragraph interpreting the results.
