Area

Enduring Understanding:

  • To understand and calculate the concept of area for different polygons.

Essential Questions:

  • What are the formulas for specific figures and subgroups of figures?
  • How can you relate the areas of different polygons to each other?
  • When can you use area of polygons in everyday situations?

Target Goals:

  • Find area of all the different figures.
  • Complete problem involving ratios of similar figures.
  • Use Hero’s and Brahmagupta’s formulas.

Assessment:

  • Quiz/Test
  • White board/chalkboard problems in class
  • Verbal Response
  • Daily Homework

Activities:

  • Relays
  • Matho review games.
  • Make your own quiz.

State Goals:

  • 7.A.4b Apply formulas in a wide variety of theoretical and practical real-world measurement applications involving perimeter, area, volume, angle, time, temperature, mass, speed, distance, density and monetary values.
