The
Lincoln-Way Community High School Mathematics
Department is committed to the schools mission
statement of providing the experiences necessary
to maximize the academic and social growth of
its students.
In
order for the Mathematics Department to provide
an environment for this to occur, department
members will need to remain current with knowledge
of national educational trends, with teaching
skills, with technology, and with content.
Department members will need to be willing to
explore ways in which to improve their teaching
environment while not discarding proven effective
practices of their own.
It
is the belief of the Lincoln-Way Community High
School Mathematics Department that students
should encounter a challenging curriculum and
coursework, which will prepare them to face
the challenges of their future. Since students
enter with varying abilities, backgrounds, and
interests, a major emphasis is placed on the
proper placement of each student according to
the skills and aptitudes, which they demonstrate.
A goal, should the student so desire, is to
take a student as far as the student can go
within a comprehensive high school mathematics
curriculum.
Another
belief of the Lincoln-Way Community High School
Mathematics Department is the value of commitment,
cooperation, dedication, honesty, perseverance,
respect, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.
To this end, department members will need to
act as role models in teaching these values,
as well as, hold these values as expectations
of students.
The
Lincoln-Way Community High School Mathematics
Department also believes students must come
to school prepared and willing to learn. Learning,
and subsequent academic achievement, will flourish
when students focus on their responsibility,
which is inherent in the educational process.
