Lincoln-Way East students chosen as All-State Music selections

On Monday, December 4, 2017, thirteen Lincoln-Way East students were given the news that they were selected as All-State Music students. These students were chosen to be All-State by the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA). Lincoln-Way East is ILMEA District 1 along with approximately 70 other high schools.

Lincoln-Way Central 1962 alum honored with Sir Edmund Hillary Mountain Legacy Medal

Lincoln-Way Central class of 1962 alum, Johan Reinhard, was selected to be this year’s Sir Edmund Hillary Mountain Legacy Medal winner. Reinhard is an Explorer-in-Residence at the National Geographic Society, and a world-acclaimed explorer and anthropologist who is being recognized for his life-long commitment to the welfare of mountain people.

Special visitors attend Lincoln-Way Animal World classes

Shortly before Lincoln-Way students took final exams, teacher Patricia Nugent scheduled a special visit for her Animal World classes. Cheri Johnson, Executive Assistant to Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow, brought two service dogs to Nugent’s Animal World class at Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-Way East. Assistant State’s Attorney Chris Vukmir also brought a service dog to Nugent’s Lincoln-Way West Animal World class.

In mid-December, Lincoln-Way students from all three schools began participating in the annual Bridge Building Competition. Students placed weight onto each bridge to test its strength, allowing the contest to recognize individuals who could best design, construct and test the most efficient bridge within given specifications. Efficiency is determined by dividing the mass held by the mass of the bridge. All students are encouraged to participate regardless of grade level.

Lincoln-Way cadets volunteer through the holidays

On Saturday, December 16, 2017, the veterans’ graves at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery were honored at the annual “Wreaths Across America” wreath-laying event; the event took place at National Cemeteries across the country. The event was established to honor and remember veterans from each branch of the military, as well as the prisoners of war and those missing in action.
