Lincoln-Way Central Mathletes win JJC InvitationalFriday, March 9, 2018
On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, the Lincoln-Way Central Mathletes Team won the Joliet Junior College (JJC) Invitational Math Contest, with 503 total points against Plainfield Central’s 394 points. With 15 areas of competition, the Knights took first place in seven areas and second place in five areas.
Placing first for the Knights were seniors Zak Dundek, Justin Hearne, Alex Manka, Julia Roessler, Ben Zuraitis, James DiFiore, Avi Joshi and Emily Parker, and juniors Jonah Haskins, Justin Lundy, Jeremy Brown, Kylie Krawulski, Ennis Lange, Julia Martin, Melissa Tran, Kalei Bass, Mallory Magro, Behnam Shamsaddin, Connor Smith, Jack Yurkanin, Brent Thomson and Michael Zhan.
The oralist team of juniors Kalei Bass and Behnam Shamsaddin placed second in the topic of expected value. Juniors Jonah Haskins and Justin Lundy captured first place in their oral on systems of nonlinear equations.
The team won the Conference title, Regional title and the JJC Invitational this year. Mathletes President, senior Emily Parker, spoke to the team after the win. “We did it!” she said. “We won all three this year. Way to go juniors for winning all your topics! Great job everyone…”
The Knights look forward to the state finals in Champaign, Illinois on May 5, 2018.
