Lincoln-Way West junior Mark Macha was one of 35 high school students selected to compete in the National Trumpet Competition held at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania March 19th March 21st.

Macha performed the first movement of the "Concerto for Trumpet" by Henri Tomasi and had the opportunity to attend classes by master trumpeters and gain valuable performing experience on a national stage.

"I could not be more proud of Mark, said Cary Ruklic, Lincoln-Way West band director and music department chair. He is an incredibly special student who has already achieved a great deal in his high school career. In addition to his fantastic musical talent, he is truly a wonderful person."

Macha was also invited to perform in the High School Symphony Orchestra this summer at the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program in Idyllwild California.

Earlier this year, Macha represented Lincoln-Way West at the Illinois Music Educators Conference, playing trumpet in the Honors Orchestra. He also performs in the West Wind Symphony, Marching Warriors, and West Jazz Band.
