The Drowsy Chaperone opened on Broadway in 2006 and ran for nearly two years earning several Tony Awards. The show is a charming and very funny tribute to the musical comedies of the 1920s and 1930s and includes characters such as a famous actress, her tipsy chaperone, her nervous fiance, gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a female airplane pilot, and a Latin ladies-man. The music is written in a style that reminds the listener of early Cole Porter and George Gershwin.
