Will County Sheriff K9s Visit Lincoln-Way Central Animal World Class
Tuesday, December 11, 2018

Students in Lincoln-Way Central’s Animal World class got a close up lesson on working dogs as Will County Sheriff’s Department Officers Bartunek and Kelley stopped by with K9s Tucker and Malice.

The two German Shepherds are trained officers for the department, specializing in tracking, narcotics search, and evidence recovery.

Officers Bartunek and Kelley spoke with students about their extensive training, how the dogs act off duty, and what they do on the job.

“They are here to work. They are looking for their “toy” or drugs,” explained Bartunek.

Malice and Tucker are trained to sit when they find drugs like marijuana, methamphetamine, LSD, or Cocaine. Once they sit, officers reward them with a favorite toy- in this case a rolled up towel.

Special thank you to officers Bartunek, Kelley, Tucker and Malice for taking the time to work with our students!
