Lincoln-Way West Honors Students with Scholarship Awards Ceremony

More than $64,300 in academic scholarships were awarded to Lincoln-Way West seniors during a special Scholarship Awards Ceremony yesterday.

The 108 scholarships were offered by community members, organizations, and businesses to 94 students.

"We are grateful for the generosity of our community and their support to help make college more affordable for our students," said Dr. Monica Schmitt, Lincoln-Way West principal.

The evening began with a buffet dinner for the students, their families and representatives of the scholarship organizations catered by Gattos of New Lenox and sponsored by Old Second Bank, LincolnWay Community Bank and Town Center Bank.

Lincoln-Way West students provided dinner music to more than 500 guests. Musicians included Anna Crisman and Elizabeth Ramsden (violin); Allison Fron and Rachel Singh (viola); and Chris Welch (cello). Annelise Trout played the piano to open the ceremony and Jenna Kirkeeng sang the national anthem.


"We are so proud of all of our outstanding Lincoln-Way West seniors for their hard work during high school and the ambitious goals they have set as they prepare for college, said Pupil Personnel Services Director Holly Pierson.

Among those honored at the senior Scholarship Night were the school's 2015 Valedictorian Jacob Gasparich and Salutatorian Raymundo Muro Barrios.

Our congratulations go out to all of you exceptional students, Dr. R. Scott Tingley, Superintendent, told the seniors at the end of the evening. It fills us with pride to learn of the prestigious colleges and universities you will be attending in the fall and the rigorous courses of study you have chosen for your future.

The community scholarships presented to students include: Aunt Nancys Early Childhood Development & Educational Scholarship; Chic Evans Caddy Scholarship; Commitment to Helping the Disabled Scholarship; Country Financial Scholarship sponsored by Rocky Dellamano; Country Financial Scholarship sponsored by Candace Jablonski; Curtain Call Theatre Scholarship; DLA Architects Think About Architecture Scholarship; Dr. Lawrence A. Wyllie Athletic Scholarship; Frankfort Car Club; Harry E. Anderson VFW Post 9545 Ladies and Mens Auxiliary Scholarship; Hedges Clinic Scholarship; Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra Board of Directors Scholarship; Joliet Junior College Foundation Scholarship; Kevin Molloy State Farm Insurance Agent Good Neighbor Award; and the Korean War Veterans Association South Suburban Chapter 23 Scholarship.

Additional community scholarships awarded include Lincoln-Way Area Business Womens Organization Scholarship, Lincoln-Way Area Chorale Scholarship; Lincoln-Way Community Bank Scholarship; Lincoln-Way District Hockey Club Scholarship, LWHS ESP Scholarship; New Lenox Chamber of Commerce Scholarship; New Lenox Lions Club Scholarship, New Lenox PTO Scholarship; New Lenox Rotary Scholarship; New Lenox Youth Football Alumni Scholarship; and Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center Scholarship, Provisur Technologies Scholarship; Stone City Kennel Club Scholarship, Tom E. Hartung New Lenox American Legion Post 177 Citizen Award; Town Center Bank Scholarship; Will County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship; and Xplosion Scholarship.

The Lincoln-Way Scholarships awarded were from the Lincoln-Way Foundation and Lincoln-Way West Athletic Boosters as well as the By Our Deeds We Are Known Scholarships, JROTC Scholarship, Lifeguard Scholarship, Music Boosters Steven M. Nedzel Excellence in Music Scholarship, National Honor Society Scholarship, Student Council Leadership Award, and West Warrior Code Scholarships.

Memorial Scholarships honored Chris Burke, Tom Manheim, Joey Kurtz, Norm West, Mike Davis, Lucy Prunty, Marty Larson, Robert Joshua Brisky, Robert K. Hammar, Ron Rob, and Steve Nedzel.
