Lincoln-Way West & North Soccer Players Team Up to Fight Cancer
Friday, May 22, 2015

Lincoln-Way West and Lincoln-Way North girls soccer programs joined forces in their sixth annual Kicking for a Cure soccer game to raise money for the fight against breast cancer.

The West Warriors defeated North 2-0 during the hard-fought charity game which raised $1,442 for Breast Cancer Research at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. The win marked Wests first victory over their cross-town rival in the programs history.

Our students felt the competitive spirit but they also shared the common goal of raising money to fight breast cancer, said West soccer coach Jeff Theiss.

Local youth soccer clubs, including the Chicago Fire Juniors, Legacy Soccer Club, Manhattan Fire Soccer Club, and Tinley Park/Frankfort Soccer Club participated in the event which created an exciting atmosphere for athletes and fans.

As a coach, it is truly inspiring when our athletes compete on the field but realize there is a greater cause off the field, said North soccer coach Mike Murphy. Breast cancer affects so many families and our students are committed to increasing awareness and support efforts to find a cure.

Cancer survivors and loved ones who lost their battles with cancer were recognized on the field prior to the start of the varsity match.
