Lincoln-Way East Softball Coach Receives Top Recognition
Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Lincoln-Way East High Schools softball coach Elizabeth Pawlicki was named the 2015 Daily Southtown Coach of the Year this week.

Pawlicki finished the season 30-5 with a second place finish in the Class 4A state championship earlier this month. Last year, the Griffins placed fourth in state. The winning team is particularly special to Pawlicki because they are the first group she has coached since freshman year.

The girls have made me the coach I am today - they have taught me so much about what it means to be a coach and the type of coach I want to be, Pawlicki said. For this, I am forever grateful.

Pawlicki said some of the teams accomplishments include becoming conference champs, back to back regional, sectional, super sectional champs and state qualifiers, as well as her 100th win as a varsity coach.

There is no other team who I would want to share that moment with, she said. These are moments we will never forget - they have been embedded in our brains where they will stay forever.

This is a well-deserved honor, said East Athletic Director Mark Vander Kooi. Elizabeth has put her heart and soul into developing a winning team. She taught her team the hard work and skills necessary to excel on the softball field and provided a demanding yet fully supportive environment that brought out the best in her athletes.

I am so proud of Elizabeth for all that she and her team accomplished together, said Lincoln-Way East Principal Dr. Sharon Michalak. They learned to work hard on the field and in the class room, demonstrating an outstanding work ethic that will serve them well in life.
