Nine Lincoln-Way East students had the opportunity to showcase their leadership skills, joining more than 11,000 of the nations brightest students at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Conference in Chicago June 29-July 2. Senior Michael Enright placed ninth in the Business Calculations category.

Thanks to their hard work and dedication, our students earned this opportunity to attend the national competition in Chicago, said Christine Ahearn, Lincoln-Way East Business & Technology teacher and FBLA advisor.

I am so proud of Michael for his ninth place finish, standing out among his peers from other school districts from across America, China, Canada and Puerto Rico, Ahearn said. This national competition is a great opportunity for all of our students to network with business leaders and other FBLA members from across the world, Ahearn said. It is a once in a lifetime experience.

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) is the largest and oldest student business organization. At the National Conference, students competed for cash awards, sharpened their core business skills, expanded their networks and participated in more than 60 competitive events.

Students who represented Lincoln-Way East include Mike Enright, Senior Business Calculations; Sebastian Khattabi, Sophomore Business Presentation; Nell Borys, Junior Business Procedures; Anant Joshi, Senior Impromptu Speaking; Nick Geoppo, Freshman Securities & Investments; and Ryan Braun, Sophomore and Bailey Leavy, Junior Sports Management & Entertainment. Christine Kettmann and Dan Hudziak also attended.

A special thank you to Walts Foods and Evielnas Red Dresser for sponsoring our students and providing them the opportunity to participate in this very beneficial competition, Ahearn said. This Conference allowed our students a greater perspective of the leadership skills required for success after high school.
