Monday, July 20, 2015

The Lincoln-Way West dance team received special recognition for their outstanding season from New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann and the Board of Trustees during the New Lenox Village Board meeting last week.

The team had a historic season, winning third place at the state competition, first place at all five regional contests, winning the SWSC Red Championship and taking first place at all Sectional contests. The state win was especially exciting for Lincoln-Way West because it was the schools first state team trophy.

It was a very exciting season and we were honored to be recognized by the Village of New Lenox for our accomplishments, said Melissa Sweeney, head coach and mathematics teacher at West. This team consistently exceeded expectations with their skill level, team work, and discipline.

The varsity team also maintained a strong commitment to academics, earning a grade point average of 3.8 which qualified them for the IHSA team academic achievement award.

We are so proud of this group of girls for their leadership and hard work, said Lincoln-Way West Principal Monica Schmitt. They will forever be remembered for bringing home Wests first state trophy and for being outstanding leaders in their school and in their community.

The members of the Warrior Dance program also volunteer in the community. For the past six years, members of the program have assisted with the New Lenox Fire Department's monthly pancake breakfasts.

The West Warrior competitive dance team includes Meredith Buldak, Rachel Czaja, Erin Dolan, Cari Floyd, Kellie Galvan, Mary Goad, Breanne Jacobs, Jessi Karlic, Meghan Kirk, Lauren Heavener, Destiny Hernandez, Danielle Kuchler, Caitlyn McGrory, Dana Moss, Jordan Mysliwiec, Sydney Novak, Miranda St. Amour, Sam Santo, Carly Senerchia, Shannon Sterr, Gabby Tanquilut, Erika Tanquilut, and Carlee Wajchert.
