Lincoln-Way West Marching Warriors Kick Off Band Camp
Wednesday, July 29, 2015

The Lincoln-Way West Marching Warriors kicked off band camp this week, learning their 2015-2016 musical numbers and marching routines. Band camp runs July 27-31 and August 3-6 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The award-winning team will perform at Wests Community Concert Thursday, August 6 at 7 p.m. at the schools stadium. Students will demonstrate many of the exercises they have been perfecting over the summer and will perform a short preview of this years show titled West.

We are able to accomplish a lot during band camp and all of the hours spent practicing allows our Marching Warriors to get into a good rhythm before the school year starts, said West Band Director Cary Ruklic. Students are excited for the western theme to this years show as well as a full schedule of competitions and parades.

The show opens with an arrangement of the Lincoln-Way West Fight Song. It also includes Desperado, My Maria, and concludes with Hoedown from Rodeo. Visually, the entire show moves from right to left, or West, as you look at the field. The color guard will be dressed in cowgirl costumes, and pieces of fencing on the field will add to the western look of the show.

This year, the band is performing at the Lake Park Lancer Joust on September 12, the Wheaton North Falcon Marching Band Festival on September 26, the Bands of American Regional in Dayton, Ohio on October 3, the Illinois State University Marching Band Invitational on October 17, and the Downers Grove South Marching Mustang Music Bowl on October 24.

The Warriors will also perform at parades throughout the district and at all of Wests home football games. The season will conclude with the annual Marching Warriors: In Concert performance on October 27 in the West Auditorium.
