Thursday, July 30, 2015

Nearly 100 students in Lincoln-Way Norths Marching Phoenix spent time preparing for the 2015 season during band camp July 27 through August 8 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Marching Phoenix always come to band camp eager to learn and excited about the 2015 show selections, said Kirk Hickman, Director of Bands.

Justin Barnish, North Music Department Chair, assisted during the summer camp, helping students with endurance and technique. Leadership was also offered by drum majors Nikki Wiltjer and Abby Panozzo.

The 2015 show title is Pastoral. Students learned Music Symphony No. 6 by Ludwig V. Beethoven, Symphony No. 6 by Jean Sibelius and the traditional Danny Boy

Band camp is also a time for students to practice for the 2015-2016 competitions, including the Lake Park Joust on September 12, the Bands of America Dayton Regional on October 3, the Lincoln-Way Invitational on October 10 and the ISU State Championships on October 17.

We are grateful for the support of our parents and Music Boosters who help support students love of marching band and provide resources that contribute to a successful competitive season, Barnish said.

The four high school bands at Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way North and Lincoln-Way West are required to learn and memorize several popular tunes, including a chorale, parade song, school fight song, the Star Spangled Banner and a variety of songs that are played during football games and at marching band competitions.
