L-W Central hosts winter national signing ceremony for student-athletes

Lincoln-Way Central Athletic Department hosted their winter college signing day on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in the Knights Round Table Hall at Lincoln-Way Central High School, New Lenox.

Fourteen Lincoln-Way Central student athletes participated in the National Letter of Intent signing ceremony. They are: Candace Finnin, Brooke Mejdrich, Jackie Farbak, Colleen McLaughlin, Courtney Kinney, Amanda Baker, Tommy Kolacki, Jacob Lysik, Tyler Massa, Fred Bartuch, Mariel Leibovitz, Jake Ruzas, Justin Markus and Nick Smith.

Each student was introduced by their respective coaches and a brief history about each student athlete was given to all the family members and friends gathered for the signing ceremony.

Candace Finnin will be playing basketball for Kankakee Community College. Her parents are John and Leslie Finnin from Mokena. Her basketball coach is Chris Fetherling. Candace intends to major in nursing.

Brooke Mejdrich will be playing soccer for St. Xavier University. Her parents are Steve and Shannon Mejdrich of New Lenox and her soccer coach is Dan Radz. Brooke plans to major in nursing.

Jackie Farbak will be playing softball for Quincy University next year. Her parents are Jack and Kimberly Farbak of New Lenox and her coach is Jeff Tarala. She plans to major in pre-law and criminal justice at the university.

Colleen McLaughlin will be playing softball next year for Kankakee Community College. Her parents are James and Margaret McLaughlin from New Lenox and Theresa McLaughlin and Vince Stafford of Beecher. Her coach is Jeff Tarala. Colleen will major in nursing or business.

Courtney Kinney will be playing softball for Concordia University Wisconsin next year. Her parents are Timothy and Connie Kinney of New Lenox. Her coach is Jeff Tarala and she plans to major in exercise science.

Amanda Baker will run cross country/track for Purdue-Calumet University next year. Her parents are Timothy and Lisa Baker of New Lenox. Her coach is Brian VanBeveren. Amanda intends to major in engineering at the university.

Tommy Kolacki will be running cross country/track for Western State Colorado University next year. His parents are Tom and Ramona Kolacki of Manhattan and his coach is John Taylor. He is undecided about his major.

Jacob Lysik will play soccer for Eastern Illinois University next year. His parents are Brian and Jane Lysik of New Lenox. His coach is Sean Fahey. Jacob plans on majoring in kinesiology.

Tyler Massa will play soccer for Eastern Illinois University next year. His parents are Matt and Melissa Massa of New Lenox. His coach is Sean Fahey; and he is undecided about his major next year.

Fred Bartuch will play soccer for Milliken University next year. His parents are Fred and Trina Bartuch of Manhattan. He plans to major in secondary education.

Mariel Leibovitz will play volleyball for Michigan Tech University next year. Her parents are Chris and Lisa Leibovitz of New Lenox. Jodi Frigo is her coach. She plans to major in biomedical engineering.

Jake Ruzas will play football for the University of Central Missouri next year. His parents are Richard and Lisa Ruzas of New Lenox. Hud Venerable is his coach. Jake will major in exercise science.

Justin Markus will play football for Butler University next fall. His parents are Jim and Kathy Markus of New Lenox. Hud Venerable is his coach. He plans to major in entrepreneurship and innovation.
Nick Smith will play football for Carthage College. His parents are Scott and Lauri Smith of New Lenox. Nick is coached by Hud Venerable. He plans to major in finance and investment banking.

Congratulations to all of the parents, brothers, sisters and grandparents in attendance today. We thank you for the many sacrifices you made helping your children achieve excellence academically and athletically. I wish to thank your coaches for their outstanding leadership and support of these student athletes, stated Hud Venerable, athletic director, to the crowd gathered in the for the signing ceremony.
