Lincoln-Way West teachers welcomed John Viebach, creator of the online application ZipGrade and Lincoln-Way alum, to their school for a professional development session about the tool for teachers.

We were honored to welcome John to Lincoln-Way West to learn more about ZipGrade, best practices for use, and information about future upgrades to the application since so many of our teachers are using it, said Dr. Monica Schmitt, Principal.

English teacher Lea Fortkamp said she began using ZipGrade two years ago after a teacher and former student shared it with her.

I use ZipGrade frequently to score smaller quizzes and assessments; as its capability for tracking student achievement of learning objectives continues to grow, I imagine using it even more, said Fortkamp. In addition to its cost-effectiveness, I love that the app allows students to have instant feedback on their work and monitors student success in real-time.

West Math Department Chair Tracy Plesek uses it in Advanced Placement Calculus AB for multiple choice questions on tests and to help students prepare for AP exams in the fall.

ZipGrade provides information about frequently missed test questions and allows me to fine-tune my instruction to ensure students are really mastering the content, Plesek said. It was great to learn more about the ins and outs of ZipGrade directly from the developer.
