Lincoln-Way West High School students were treated to a special lesson about Congress from United States Representative Robin Kelly who visited James De Franks Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics class last week.

Our students were extremely grateful to gain first-hand insight about how Congress operates directly from one of our United States Representatives, said De Frank. Congresswoman Kelly took the time to answer students questions and have an open dialogue about important issues facing our nation.

Students asked Congresswoman Kelly questions about the criteria required to serve in Congress, the recent presidential debates, social issues affecting young people, and the impact of Speaker John Boehners departure.

It is important for students to hear what it takes to get to Congress and what its like to serve, said De Frank. The Congresswomans visit helped reemphasize to students the importance of young people getting involved and engaged in the political process as well as becoming informed voters and citizens.
