Central Mathletes Win Conference

On Wednesday, January 27th, the Lincoln-Way Central Mathletes set another record by winning their 9th conference championship in a row!

The Knights took home 644 points against Lincoln-Way West’s strong showing of 618 points.

In the 15 areas of competition, the Knights earned 1 fourth place medal, 1 third place medal, 5 second place medals, and 5 first place medals.
Sophomores Emily Parker and Lexie Krupske earned placed 3rd in their oral on Equations of Lines.
Seniors Matt Fleckenstein and Derek Jones earned 2nd place in their oral on Functions with 49 points.
Junior Michael Gentry and senior Nathan Chianelli placed 1st in their Exponential and Logarithmic oral by scoring 48 points.

Other Knights placing first were the Sophomore Quadratic Equations team of Brandon Bennitt, Zak Dundek, Grace Klevorn, Taylor Lenburg, Sara Swanberg, and Kelly Tran; the Sophomore Systems of Equations team of Zak Dundek, Lexie Krupske, Taylor Lenburg, Sara Swanberg, Kelly Tran, and Ben Zuraitis; the Freshman/Sophomore Calculator team of Adam Ceh, Sean Dennelly, Ben Zuraitis, Kalei Bass, Kylie Krawulski, and Behnam Shamsaddin; and the Freshman Linear Equations team of Kalei Bass, Jeremy Brown, Kathleen Findlay, Behnam Shamsaddin, Brent Thomson, and Ennis Lange.

Lincoln-Way Central Mathlete President Nathan Chianelli announced to his team, “Way to go Mathletes! We did it. You worked hard to practice for this win and your practice paid off.”

Head coach Lisa Parker added, “It is my privilege to work with this team every year. I am extremely proud of all of them.”

The Knights will set their sights on a victory at the Regional competition in late February.
