East/North JROTC Competes at the SWSC Conference ChampionshipMonday, February 29, 2016
The Lincoln-Way North/East Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) junior varsity drill team took first place in the 2016 Southwest Suburban Conference drill championship. Additionally, the varsity team placed second and the combined team took second overall.
The team’s coach, Master Sergeant Dale Steen said “It’s amazing! We’re one of the smallest teams in the conference yet we still triumphed over giants. Our cadets were extremely focused and dedicated this year. Their team vision was to ‘be a highly competitive drill team.’ I’d say they lived up to that vision.”
The team held 62 practices totaling 144 hours. Some other teams have over twice the number of cadets and three times the instructors. The North/East team however, with just one instructor and one parent volunteer coach, stepped up, trained hard, and performed extremely well. The JV team took first place in three of their four events.
The members of the team are…
Varsity: Emma Albers-Lopez, Skye Brugler, James Casteel, Justin Coles, Max Crawford, Andrew Eveland, Jacob Grygus, Jacob Jung, Timothy Lutz, Gustavo Morales, Michael Serafin, Adam Sierakowski, Kenneth Smith, Amanda Sorensen.
Junior Varsity: Nahum Arriaga, Isabelle Bakutis, Dominic DiAngi, Arick Hauschild, Alexander, Kubin Abigail Lindeman, Kirsten Lutz, Carleigh Phelon, Michael Thompson, Nathaniel Zambrano.
