L-W North varsity cheerleaders earn 4th place in state competition

Lincoln-Way North Cheerleaders put in a strong performance at the 2015 IHSA Large Division Cheerleading State Competition earning a fourth place.

The IHSA Cheerleading competition was held at US Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, IL with the prelims on Friday, February 6 and final competition held on Saturday, February 7.

The Phoenix cheerleaders gave an impressive performance during the prelims on Friday, placing fourth behind Sandburg High School earning a third place, Lockport second place and Lincoln-Way East earning first place.

The Phoenix came out strong on Saturday for the finals competition. Their final performance earned a score of 90.93, earning them fourth place overall in state competition for the IHSA Large Division State category.

This is the first time in North history for our cheer program to not only make finals, but also place 4th in the state. We are so incredibly proud of their accomplishments that we could not think of a better way to end our season, stated Jaime Pearson, head cheerleading coach.

Members of the Phoenix cheerleading squad are: Jenna Bailey, Kimmi Barkus, Mia Cleofe, Mia Cook, Cassie Craig, Kristin Dye, Becca Eatinger, Mia Graham, Kody Malas, Haley Holder, Rachel Ippolito, Payton Lang, Mimi Mack, Christa Mack, Alexis Mazanec, Mal Moran, Kaitlyn Moylan, Alyssa Murray, Sam Myers, Ang Rehder, Sarah Smith, Taylor Terry, Kenya Washington, Lauren Williams, Kayla Wols, and Sydney Zilinskas.

The girls on our cheerleading squad competed with intensity and represented the Phoenix with pride. Im so happy for them; theyve worked so hard. They deserve the success they have achieved, stated Dr. Mark Cohen, principal.
