Central Mathletes Win JJC InvitationalFriday, March 11, 2016
The Lincoln-Way Central Mathletes team won the Joliet Junior College Invitational Math Contest on Wednesday, March 9th, with 349 total points against Plainfield North’s 329 points. With 15 areas of competition, the Knights took first in 7 areas of competition and 2nd in 3 areas.
The Freshman Mathletes swept all of their categories! Freshmen who placed first were: Kalei Bass, Kathleen Findlay, Ennis Lange, Hunter Opiola, Behnam Shamsaddin, Melissa Tran, Teresa Barrett, Jeremy Brown, Joey Storer, and Brent Thomson. Other Mathletes placing first were sophomores: Zak Dundek, Nathan Lucchetti, Roman Macie, and Ben Zuraitis; juniors Jessica Bettridge, Liana Chidichimo, Sean Curran, Sebastian Esparza, Carlos Ferran-Heredia, Michael Gentry, Matt Klock, Andrew Linares, Mike Mikolajczak, Brett Rainbolt, and Sam Schletz; seniors Nathan Chianelli, Matt Fleckenstein, Derek Jones, Aaron Pachol, and Justin Yurkanin.
The oralist teams brought home 2nd place medals: Jessica Bettridge with Liana Chidichimo in Combinatorics and Emily Parker with Nathan Chianelli in Law of Sines and Cosines.
The Mathlete President, senior Nathan Chianelli, spoke to his team after the win and stated, “For most of us, this was our last contest this year. You have done a great job, and I am very proud of all of you. It’s been fun!”
