L-W Board of Education honors 2015 valedictorians and salutatorians

The Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Board of Education recognized its top academic students Thursday night, introducing the Class of 2015 valedictorians and salutatorians from Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way North, and Lincoln-Way West high schools.

This evenings ceremony is to honor our valedictorians and salutatorians. This select group of individuals has chosen to set themselves apart and achieve at the very highest of academic levels, stated Dr. R. Scott Tingley, superintendent.

The Class of 2015 represents the 54rd set of valedictorians/salutatorians from Lincoln-Way Central; the 13th set from Lincoln-Way East; the sixth set from Lincoln-Way North; and the fifth set from Lincoln-Way West.

The valedictorians for the Class of 2015 are:
Lincoln-Way Central Daniel Zolecki, with a grade point average of 5.75. He is the son of Joe and Kelly Zolecki of New Lenox.

Lincoln-Way East Brianna McKenna with a grade point average of 5.929. She is the daughter of Michael and Greta McKenna of Frankfort.

Lincoln-Way North David Arnold with a grade point average of 5.635. David is the son of Glenn and Linda Arnold of Frankfort.

Lincoln-Way West Jacob Gasparich with a grade point average of 5.478. He is the son of Christine Gasparich of New Lenox and Bill Gasparich of Joliet.

The salutatorians of the Class of 2015 are:
Lincoln-Way Central Maddie McLaughlin with a grade point average of 5.657. She is the daughter of Trisha and Jim McLaughlin of New Lenox.

Lincoln-Way East Sedona Cody with a grade point average of 5.662. She is the daughter of Pamela Cody of Mokena and William Cody of Mokena.

Lincoln-Way North Alison DeBruyn has a grade point average of 5.632. She is the daughter of Gus and Beth DeBruyn of Frankfort.

Lincoln-Way West Raymundo Muro Barrios has a grade point average of 5.435. He is the son of Raymundo Muro Sr. and Zuila Barrios of New Lenox.

Congratulations to all of you. Your determination and effort have put you in this position. You have chosen to take advantage of all the educational opportunities provided at Lincoln-Way. You can be sure we are proud of you and look forward to your future accomplishments, stated Dr. Tingley.

Lincoln-Way East 6:30 p.m. June 3
Lincoln-Way Central 6:30 p.m. June 4
Lincoln-Way North 6:30 p.m. June 5

Daniel Zolecki, valedictorian for Lincoln-Way Central, is involved in a number of school activities, including Mathletes, Singing Knights, Anime Club and National Honor Society. His favorite teachers are Colin Hopper and Bobbi Pehle. Outside of school, Daniel enjoys participating in boy scouts. He will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison and majoring in micro-biology. Daniel is a National Merit Scholar and AP Scholar. He has earned the Eagle Scout award, highest rank in scouting.

Brianna McKenna, valedictorian for Lincoln-Way East, enjoys participating in a number of school activities including Madrigal Brass, Pep Band, Mathletes, Junior Classical League and Book Club. Her favorite teacher is Sean Maher. Brianna also volunteers in the community for her church. She has applied to Boston University, Case Western Reserve University and Washington University in St. Louis. She plans to major in biomedical engineering. Brianna has received the Carson Scholar 2014 award as well as being named a National Merit Semifinalist. She received a perfect 36 on the ACT.

David Arnold, valedictorian for Lincoln-Way North, enjoys participating in a number of school activities including Marching Phoenix, Pep Band, Mathletes, Spring Musical, Madrigals, Scholastic Bowl, Pi Sigma Pi, Mu Alpha Theta, Science National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and National Honor Society. George Czart was his favorite teacher at North. Outside of school he and his family enjoy volunteering for Feed My Starving Children and for the Fight for Air climb. David also plans to help out in the Miles for Music 5K this spring. He will attend either the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology or the Illinois Institute of Technology. He plans to major in electrical engineering. David is a PSAE All-Star and an AP Scholar.

Jacob (Jake) Gasparich, valedictorian for Lincoln-Way West, is involved in a number of school activities including Volleyball, Mathletes president, Pi Sigma Pi, Mu Alpha Theta president, Board Game Club and National Honor Society, president. His favorite teacher is Michelle Laack, science teacher. Community activities he enjoys are volunteering with youth volleyball camps and tutoring peers in math and English. He has been admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is considering attending there and playing volleyball. He plans on majoring in engineering. He has been named a National Merit Semi-finalist, Illinois State Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, Varsity Scholar Athlete Award. He earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT and was a PSAE All Star.

Maddie McLaughlin, Lincoln-Way Central salutatorian, has participated in many school activities including, Student Council, Mathletes, Science club, International club, Mu Alpha Theta, and secretary of the National Honor Society. Her five favorite teachers are Rhonda Starklauf, Dr. David Baran, Colin Hopper, Katie Brauer and Lisa Parker. She also enjoys being a competitive dancer and studying classical ballet, tap, jazz, modern and lyrical dance. She enjoys performing in annual productions including The Nutcracker. She is undecided about where she is attending college next year. She will major in biomedical engineering. Maddie is a PSAE State Scholar, and she her Mathlete team has won conference and regionals the last 3 years. She received an honorable mention in the High School Mathematical contest and received the Sportsmanship award and Academic award for her girls basketball team her freshmen and sophomore years.

Sedona Cady, Lincoln-Way East salutatorian, is active in many school activities including Griffin Marching Band, Blue Notes, Wind Ensemble, Chorale, Spring Musical, Madrigal Ladies, Pep Band, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Tri-M, Key Club, International Club, and Orchestra. Joshua Holder and Lauren Hurley are her favorite teachers. Sedona enjoys teaching swimming lessons and lifeguarding at Lincoln-Way East. She also enjoys participating in her churchs youth group and babysitting. Sedona has been accepted at Ohio State University, Saint Louis University and Boston University. She plans on majoring in biomedical engineering. Sedona has been selected as an AP Scholar, Illinois State Scholar, and earned the Seal of Biliteracy. She was also chosen for the ILMEA District 1 Chorus, high school honor roll and earned 1st and 2nd place in ILMEA Solo and Ensemble Contest.

Alison DeBruyn, Lincoln-Way North salutatorian, enjoys participating in Phoenix Chefs (she is the founder and president), Phoenix Marching Band, Track & Field, Interact Club, SkillsUSA and International Club. She also enjoys helping volunteering for school and community events that involve working in kitchens and serving food and she volunteers at the Frankfort Square Park District. She hopes to attend the University of Illinois. She plans to major in finance and Information Systems & Information Technology. She has received several awards including AP Scholar, Illinois State Scholar, and the Greg Sheehan Best Managed Firm Award from Wabash College and earned 2nd place in state for Commercial Baking in SkillsUSA in 2014.

Raymundo Muro Barrios, salutatorian for Lincoln-Way West, enjoys participating in a number of school activities including Student Council (vice-president), Mathletes, Soccer, National Honor Society, Pi Sigma Pi, Mu Alpha Theta and Board Games Club. His favorite teacher is Dawn Floyd. He plans on attending Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and will major in pharmacy. Raymundo is a National Merit Commended Scholar, Illinois State Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, National Recognized Hispanic Scholar, and PSAE All-Star.
