LWE Jazz Showcase to be Held on Friday, May 20th & Saturday, May 21st

Looking for some great local music and fun evening out? The Lincoln-Way East Music Department will be presenting its Jazz Showcase Friday, May 20th and Saturday, May 21.

This annual dinner event features the school's combos and big bands under the direction of Ben Clark and vocal jazz groups directed by Melissa Curtis. It's sure to be a wonderful evening of great jazz music, ending with a chance to kick up your heels and do a little dancing to some big band favorites.

The $28 ticket includes an evening of amazing instrumental and vocal jazz entertainment as well as a buffet dinner with vegetarian and gluten-free options, beverages and dessert bar. There will be raffle table loaded with items donated by local businesses and individuals as well as souvenir cups for sale. All proceeds support the Lincoln-Way East Music Department.

Tickets can be ordered by downloading the form located on the Lincoln-Way East Music Department website at lwemusic.org. Ticket orders must be received by May 16. Please note: tickets will NOT be sold at the door.

This year, the Lincoln-Way East Music Department is proud to welcome special guest artist, saxophonist Jarrard Harris! A native of Louisville, Kentucky, saxophonist and educator Jarrard Harris attended the Youth Performing Arts School in high school and attended the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music to further his jazz studies.

At CCM he studied with Rick VanMatre, Pat Harbison, and Marc Fields. Upon Graduation from CCM and a stint as an educational intern for Jazz at Lincoln Center, Harris moved to Chicago in 1998 to further his studies at DePaul University where under the tutelage of Bob Lark, Tim Coffman, and Marc Colby, he earned his master's degree in jazz studies.

Harris currently lives in Chicago, where he is on the jazz faculty of Northwestern University and Columbia College Chicago. He also serves as the director of jazz studies with the Chicago Public Schools Advanced Arts Education Program at Gallery 37. He maintains an active private teaching studio in addition to adjudicating college and high school festivals, giving master classes, lecturing, serving as a board member for the Jazz Institute of Chicago and has performed with musicians in the United States and abroad.
