Lincoln-Way Cadets Excel in Air Force JROTC Academic BowlFriday, May 6, 2016
As the school year comes to a close, JROTC Cadets have many victories to look back upon. In February, Lincoln-Way Central cadets participated on the JROTC Academic Bowl team for the 2015-2016 school year.
The Academic Bowl competition prepares students for state mandated and college entrance exams. Not only do these tests cover the expected English, Math and Science areas of study, but they also address the JROTC curriculum and current events in areas of national and international news, politics, business and international relations.
Lincoln-Way JROTC cadets scored in the top 20 of Level Two competition. To achieve this level, they first had to compete against 850 Air Force Units world-wide in Level One. At Level Two, they were up against 124 Air Force units, and performed well enough to earn a spot in the top 20.
Looking back on the event, Master Sergeant Schliffka, JROTC Aerospace Science Instructor, says "This is an amazing group of cadets who stand out academically, and worked together to excel as a team. This is a challenging competition and it was a fantastic opportunity for them to assess their skills against their peers across the country."
Team members include: Teresa Kozak, Elizabeth Ihrke, Taylor Lynberg, Abigail Sutter, Maddy Willson, and Bailey Tincher.
