Lincoln-Way East High School hosts "Back to School Night"Wednesday, August 24, 2016
On Monday, August 23, Lincoln-Way East hosted “Back to School Night” for parents and guardians of Griffins. Over 1200 attendees represented 955 students. Parents and guardians began the night with a presentation by Principal Sharon Michalak in the auditorium, where she introduced members from the administration and staff.
“This team will work every day to help our students achieve at the highest level possible and enjoy coming to Lincoln-Way East. Tonight is about forming the team to help our students be successful,” she said.
Dr. Michalak then spoke of each department’s responsibilities and encouraged parents to ask questions. She acknowledged the changes that this school year will bring and emphasized the opportunities that lie ahead. “I told our sophomores, juniors and seniors, that this is an opportunity to expand their circle of friends. I asked them to celebrate their histories, whether it be the great traditions of the Phoenix or the wonderful traditions of the Griffins, and to blend these traditions along with new ideas so we can make this a great year!”
After Dr. Michalak’s speech, parents and guardians walked through the schedule of their student’s classes, allowing them to meet staff and teachers, as well as receive a brief synopsis and expectations for each course. Attendees were able to ask questions to teachers and administrators throughout the night, as well as purchase “Griffin Gear” spirit wear.
“We were thrilled to see so many involved supporters attend the Lincoln-Way East ‘Back to School Night,’” said Principal Michalak. “The student support shown by parents, guardians, faculty, and staff will foster excellent learning environments both inside and outside of school. We are excited to see the accomplishments that result from such strong community encouragement.”
