Lincoln-Way West student wins logo design contest for Lincoln-Way Half MarathonTuesday, December 6, 2016
The Lincoln-Way Half Marathon, formerly known as the Frankfort Half Marathon, will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. The Lincoln-Way Foundation is currently planning for the marathon in conjunction with Will County Forest Preserve.
In an effort to help prepare for the event, the Lincoln-Way Foundation reached out to Lincoln-Way Art Department Chair, Phil Labriola. Labriola helped the foundation by collecting logo design submissions from art students across the district.
"The Art Department was excited to be able to give our students the opportunity to be involved in creating the logo for the Lincoln-Way Foundation's Half Marathon race. It was a great way for our students to put to use what they have been learning in class,” says Labriola.
Labriola presented the Foundation with ten student-created designs in mid-November. The Foundation then voted for their favorite designs, ultimately selecting the logo created by student Oliva Judge of Lincoln-Way West.
"I enjoyed participating in the logo contest. It was really exciting that my logo was chosen. My dad and I are even planning on running the Half Marathon now,” says Judge.
The race, planned for April 29 of next year, will begin and end at Breidert Green Park in downtown Frankfort.
"The Lincoln-Way Foundation is excited to organize a half marathon this year,” says board member Stacie McGlone. “We feel that it gives the entire Lincoln-Way community a chance to get involved, cheer on the runners and ultimately, benefit the students. We are currently seeking sponsors and volunteers and will be looking for ways to incorporate the talents of the various organizations within the school district.“
