Lincoln-Way Life Skills students prepare desserts for annual dance with lessons from former Lincoln-Way student
Thursday, December 8, 2016

Every December, a holiday dance is held for students in the Lincoln-Way Life Skills Program. This year’s Life Skills Dance will take place on Friday, December 9 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Lincoln-Way Central. The dance welcomes students in the Life Skills Program, Best Buddies, Friends U-Knighted, and Warrior Pals. Each class makes a snack to bring to the dance and share with all those in attendance.

In preparation for the dance, Sue Cimaroli and Jason Berg's class chose to make cupcakes. Britni Anema, a former student of Cimaroli’s, owns a cupcake business (Cupcake Crazy) with her mother in New Lenox. On Wednesday, December 7, 2016, Anema and her mother, Sherry Van Etten, visited Cimaroli and Berg’s Lincoln-Way East classroom to educate students on proper use of icing bags in cupcake decoration. Anema and Van Etten demonstrated cupcake decorating techniques for the students and provided them with fondant stars which were used to make “Christmas tree cupcakes.”

"It was great to see a former student teaching my current students the art of cupcake decorating,” said Cimaroli. “A sweet experience was had by all!"

Students and staff enjoyed this creative activity, and the cupcakes will be available for students at Friday’s dance.
