Lincoln-Way East students donate nearly 5,000 items in Silver Turkey Food DriveThursday, December 8, 2016
From November 14-18, 2016, Lincoln-Way East Student Council hosted a Silver Turkey Food Drive during all first hour classes. Proceeds collected benefited the Frankfort Township Food Pantry. The Student Council Executive Board helped deliver/unload the food at the pantry.
In total, 4,932 items were donated as well as $267.00 in cash. Over half of the collected donations came from three classrooms. The top contributing classrooms were:
• Stephanie Natalie’s first period classroom, which donated 1,967 items,
• Tim Harrah’s first period classroom, which donated 527 items, and
• Dena Cavazos first period classroom, which donated 322 items.
“The holidays are a time for family, food, and togetherness,” says teacher Jason Pearson. “There are families in our community that struggle to provide meals during the holidays. The Frankfort Township Food Pantry has been a great outlet to help those local families in need, which is why we have donated to them in the past. By the tremendous support we received from our student body, this level of giving shows how much we care to help those who are less fortunate. I am very proud of our generous students who have made a difference through giving.”
