Lincoln-Way Central wrestling team hosts "Battle for the Blue" theme night Wednesday, January 11, 2017
On January 10, 2017 in the main gym, the Lincoln-Way Central Wrestling Team hosted their "Battle for the Blue" theme night honoring local law enforcement.
“It was a great event and a great chance for our school to thank these wonderful individuals,” said Coach Jason DePolo.
Although the Knights had victories from Liam Meagher, Noah Upchurch, Jason Stokes, Luke Valentine, and Ryan Gillooley, they came up short 42-21 against Yorkville. The true highlight of the night, however, came prior to the physical matches, when law enforcement officers were thanked for their dedicated service. Law enforcement officer Tom Gallas led the ceremony by playing the National Anthem on the bag pipes. Twenty-one police officers were then honored with a T-shirt and a personal thank you from each of the Lincoln-Way Central varsity wresters.
“This was a great way for our student athletes to honor law enforcement officers who serve our Lincoln-Way community,” said Athletic Director, Matthew Lyke. “The wrestlers were proud to be able to thank those who are committed to keeping our community safe.”
