Tuesday, January 17, 2017

On Wednesday, January 11, 2017 three Lincoln-Way High School educators traveled to Springfield to attend an inauguration event for State Senator Michael E. Hastings. Hastings was reelected for a second term to serve 19th District, which encompasses District 210 and much of the neighboring south suburbs. Lincoln-Way East social science teachers Kevin McCleish and Patrick Leonard, joined by Lincoln-Way Central’s Sarah Brady, received an invitation to attend the event at the Illinois State Library.

“We are honored to have received an invitation to this inauguration event,” said Leonard. McCleish added, “It’s important to demonstrate to our students that political efficacy is not just something discussed in the classroom. Community involvement requires a combination of theory and practice, which we emphasize in our curriculum.” Speaking to community collaboration, Brady stated, “Dialogue between community stakeholders is a necessity for meaningful progress, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with all policymakers in our area. We appreciated the opportunity to represent District 210 at this event.”
