Friday, January 20, 2017

The Lincoln-Way West High School Pep Band, under the direction of Cary Ruklic, has been selected as one of the Official 2017 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Final Pep Bands. The band completed an application to perform in mid-December of 2016, submitting audio and video audition material. Ruklic was notified of the selection on Friday, January 13. Approximately 70 Warrior band members will perform at Redbird Arena at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois on March 4, 2017.

“It is an honor to be selected for this performance opportunity, and the band is excited to help bring energy and enthusiasm to the state basketball championships,” says Ruklic.

The student musicians will perform during the Girls State Final Basketball Tournament beginning at 11:00 a.m., and performances will continue into the evening. They will perform a wide variety of music, from classics such as “Sweet Caroline” and “Twist and Shout,” to contemporary pop music such as “Shut up and Dance” and “Uptown Funk.”

“It is always an honor to select the Official IHSA Pep Bands for our events,” said IHSA Assistant Executive Director Susan Knoblauch. “We enjoy seeing the student musicians ‘take their show on the road’ and showcase what they do at their home games.”

The Lincoln-Way West High School award-winning band program continues to provide students with the discipline and skills necessary to gain professional success and career advancement.

The event will be broadcasted on IHSATV at http://www.nfhsnetwork.com/associations/ihsa.
