On Friday, February 3, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., more than 50 students from five high schools attended the Moraine Valley Welding Competition. Of the 50, eight students were from Lincoln-Way East. Two Griffins brought home second and third place titles.

In the written test, sophomore Adam Hudson took second place. In gas metal arc welding, senior Charles Labaj took third.

Students competed in four content areas: shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), oxy-fuel torch cutting (OFC), and a written test.

Welding Instructor Daymon Gast expressed pride for his students and excitement for their potential future careers. “I am very proud of all the contestants who had the courage to enter Moraine Valley’s welding contest,” he said. He added that opportunities for careers in the trades industry have grown over the past ten years.
