Lincoln-Way East Athletic Director Reviews 2016-2017 School YearTuesday, August 8, 2017
The 2016-2017 school year was no different than any other for Lincoln-Way East Athletic Director, Mark Vander Kooi. With a state championship title and success in all 28 sports, Lincoln-Way East did not disappoint per usual. Vander Kooi chose his top 5 rewarding moments for LWE while commending the LWE coaches, student-athletes and student section.
The Lincoln-Way East Varsity Cheerleading Team won its third state title with an infusion of talent from East's former sister school, Lincoln-Way North.
This past season girls’ softball came out strong avenging their regular season loss to Marist, winning 2-0 in the State 3A semi-final game to get to the state championship game.
Another moment Vander Kooi chose was when LWE Boys’ Basketball defeated the number one seat in the state, Bolingbrook, on their home court with an outstanding student section cheering them on.
“Our student section was awesome this year. Their spirit and enthusiasm were so motivating for our athletic teams."
Boys’ Volleyball also made some amazing accomplishments this year when they defeated New Trier and Lake Park at State earning the opportunity to play in the state championship game.
Finally, Vander Kooi added how 65 of LWE’s 2017 graduates committed to competing in interscholastic athletics in college as well as participating in East’s college signing ceremonies.
"This was a highly successful year for all 28 sports. Our coaches worked extremely hard to set high expectations and create a culture that promoted success and developed strong character, all while creating opportunities for as many student-athletes to participate as possible. Our student-athletes were talented, but also earned their achievements through hard work and discipline,” said Vander Kooi.
