“Guys and Dolls is a wonderful example of the classical American musical.
With its colorful cast of Broadway characters – gamblers, nightclub dancers,
police, mission workers – and one of the best musical scores ever written
for Broadway, Guys and Dolls is perfect family entertainment. The show was originally
produced on Broadway in 1950 and ran for three years. It was made into a movie
in 1955 with Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra in the leading roles. Since then,
Guys and Dolls has been performed thousands of times around the world by theater
companies from junior high school students to professional actors. Songs such
as “Luck be a Lady”, “A Bushel and a Peck” and “Sit
Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat” have become standards of American
popular song,” states Michael Bultman, musical director, and choral director
for Lincoln-Way Central.
The cast has 50 members, chosen from more than 90 students who auditioned.
Michael Bultman, Lincoln-Way Central Choir director, is directing Guys and Dolls,
with choreography by Nicole Lazuka. Other LWC music staff are involved as well:
Eric Wellman is preparing the orchestra, Steve Nedzel will serve as Stage Manager
and Nate Jackson will help prepare lighting and sound for the production.
