Moon Rocks for
Central & East
Direct from
the moon, the Air Force Junior ROTC students at both Lincoln-Way
Central and Lincoln-Way East high schools got a special opportunity
to view the lunar soil samples, commonly known as “moon
rocks”this past week.
“This
is exciting, because the rocks are really from outer space.
It’s great to be able to hold something from the moon,”stated
a Lincoln-Way Central junior from New Lenox.
The moon
rocks were on loan from NASA and checked out to Lt. Colonel
John O’Connor, Lincoln-Way Junior ROTC Commander. To
be able to have the irreplaceable national treasurers on loan,
NASA requires all personnel to have a special certification
to handle and present the moon rocks. Col. O’Connor had
obtained the certification so that he could request the moon
rocks for observation while the ROTC students were studying
the Space Exploration unit in their ROTC class.
