The Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Board of Education recognized the Class of 2008 valedictorians and salutatorians at the Board of Education meeting held at the Central High School on Thursday.

The valedictorian for Lincoln-Way Central is Marja Norberg earning a 5.226 grade point average to receive top honors for the 713 seniors in the Class of 2008. Marja’s parents are Thomas and Katherine Norberg of New Lenox.

The valedictorian for Lincoln-Way East is Bridget Quinn earning a 5.127 grade point average to receive top honors for the 955 seniors in the Class of 2008. Bridget’s parents are Gregory and Regina Quinn of Mokena.
            
The salutatorian for Lincoln-Way Central is Erin Bolte earning a 5.210. Erin’s parents are Ron and Ellen Bolte from New Lenox.
                
The salutatorian for Lincoln-Way East is Shivani Patel earning a 5.071. Shivani’s parents are Shailesh and Ragini Patel of Frankfort.
         
”We are most proud of our fine students who have earned the honor of leading their graduation class onto the field to begin the Class of 2008 graduation ceremonies. They are leaders in the classroom and leaders in school activities. They truly personify the best of the school’s mission statement to be committed to providing the experiences and opportunities necessary to maximize the academic and social growth of all students. We all wish them the best,” stated Dr. Lawrence A. Wyllie, superintendent.

Lincoln-Way East High School’s Class of 2008 graduation will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place in the sports stadium, weather permitting. Lincoln-Way Central High School’s Class of 2008 graduation will be held on Thursday, June 5 at 7:00 p.m. in Lashmet Field, weather permitting.

Marja, valedictorian for Central, enjoys participating in many school activities including the Junior Classical League, Certamen, Mathletes, Scholastic Bowl, National Honor Society, National Latin Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Wind Symphony. In the community Marja has been active with the Girl Scouts. She is undecided about her major and what school she plans on attending after graduation. Marja received the Illinois Junior Classical League (JCL) North’s Parliamentarian award in 2006—07 and became president for the 2007-2008 school year. Marja also qualified as a National Merit Finalist and Illinois State Scholar this year.

Bridget Quinn, valedictorian for East, enjoys participating in numerous school activities including Scholastic Bowl, Mathletes, Badminton, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Pi Sigma Pi, and Mu Alpha Theta. She also volunteers with the Knights of Columbus. Bridget has applied to  Notre Dame and plans on majoring in biology and psychology as pre-med. Bridget is a National Merit Semi-finalist, Illinois State Scholar, Advanced Placement Scholar and scored a perfect 2400 on her SAT. In addition, Bridget earned the honor of qualifying as a 2008 Presidential Scholar.

Erin Bolte, Lincoln-Way Central salutatorian, has participated in many school activities including Mathletes, Student Council, Peer Helpers, Scholastic Bowl, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Madrigal Brass, Musical Pit Orchestra, Pep Band, Tri-M, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Principal’s Cabinet. She is also active in the New Life Church Youth Group and volunteers for the Strides Therapeutic Riding Center. She has applied to St. Olaf College, Purdue University, Grinnell College, St. Ambrose University and Notre Dame. She plans on majoring in mathematics. Additional honors Erin has received are Illinois State Scholar, Exceeds All for PSEA, National Merit Commended Scholar, President of Mathletes, Secretary of Tri-M and Student Council, “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” for 3 years, and 2 years a selectee for the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) District Orchestra.

Shivani Patel, Lincoln-Way East salutatorian, is active in school activities including Student Council, Badminton, Mathletes, National Merit Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Pi Sigma Pi. She also studies and participates in Bharatnatjam dance, a South Indian classical dance. She plans on attending the University of Chicago, majoring in biochemistry. Additional awards she has received are National Merit Commended Scholar and Advanced Placement Scholar.
