READING TEACHER MEETINGS

BEFORE Reading Foundation Strategies

Session I -- Wednesday, July 11 - Location TBA

Session II -- Thursday, July 12 - Location TBA

9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

These sessions will focus on all of the important pre-reading concepts, including SCHEMA and previewing textbooks. We will also make connections from the reading and writing processes during these sessions.

Active Reading Content Strategies

Session III -- Wednesday, July 25 - Location TBA

Session IV -- Thursday, July 26 - Location TBA

9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

These sessions will emphasize the DURING READING stages - from instruction and guided reading activities to "fix-up" strategies when students struggle with text. Notetaking, SubSearch (PS) Graphic Organizers and Skim/Scan are the keys.

Assessment Strategies and Vocabulary

Session V -- Thursday, August 9 -- Location TBA

Session VI -- Friday, August 10 -- Location TBA

9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

These sessions will emphasize the AFTER READING stages - developing authentic comprehension and vocabulary assessments, and "teaching to the tests" in content areas. Writing test questions that prepare students for assessments in reading and graphic data will be a significant portion of these sessions.
