A collection of cars from the various decades will be on display
Friday, May 16, at Lincoln-Way East High School.
The school’s Skills USA chapter is organizing the event,
which gives students a chance to see a selection of automotive
art and history.
“The cars mostly belong to students or their parents,” said
Dylan Burgett, a career and technical education teacher at the
school. “But anybody is welcome to participate in the show.”
A few teachers, including Burgett, plan to bring their own cars
to the show. Community members also are encouraged to bring their
cars to the show.
Everyone who participates, except for the teachers, will be eligible
for prizes that will be handed out at the end of the day.
About 20 cars in all are expected to participate in the show
from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. The cars will be parked in the lot between
the school’s auto shop and tennis courts.
All Lincoln-Way East students will have an opportunity to view
the cars and vote for their favorite during their advisory/study
hall classes, said Burgett. Some teachers may also choose to take
select classes out to view the cars when it fits their schedule
or curriculum, he added.
Spectators will be asked to vote for their favorite car.
Whoever receives the mot votes will receive a car detailing kit. Prizes also
will be awarded to the second- and third-place winners.
Each participant paid $5 to enter the show, said Burgett. Proceeds
will be benefit the Lincoln-Way East Skills USA chapter, which
partners with industry to ensure America has a skilled work force.
