Jeff is an Illinois State Scholar, an AP Scholar
with Honors and National Merit Finalist. He earned a 5.003
GPA on a 4.0 scale, placing him in the top five of his class.
He scored a 35 on his ACT, finished 5th in the state with
his Mathlete’s eight-person team, and participated
in a week-long University of Notre Dame Global Issues Seminar
that earned him one hour of college credit.
Jeff also is a member of the school’s
Speech Team and cross country team. He has taken 1st place
in seven different speech tournaments over the years, winning
his conference twice and qualifying for the state speech
tournament his freshman, junior and senior years.
In cross country, Jeff was named Most Improved
on the team and won the Gutty Griffin Award for determination
and tenacity.
Academically, Jeff is a member of Pi Sigma
Pi (history honors), Mu Alpha Theta (math honors), National
Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. He has
been involved with the IIT Regional Bridge Building Competition
as well as Lincoln-Way East’s Writing Center tutoring
program.
To be eligible for consideration for selection
to the All-State Academic Team, students must meet the following
requirements:
• Have a minimum GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale after the seventh semester
• Have participated in at least two IHSA-sponsored activities
• Have demonstrated outstanding citizenship during her/his high school
career
Jeff admits it isn’t always easy juggling
academics with athletics and school activities.
“There’s a lot of time management
involved,” he said.
In the fall, Jeff plans to attend the University
of Notre Dame and pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
