Interior design students spiff up principal’s office at L-W East

Students in Teri Giobbia's interior design class at Lincoln-Way East submitted sketch plans to Associate Principal Brenda Jensen. The students are helping Jensen redecorate her office at East.
Students in Teri Giobbia's interior design class at Lincoln-Way East have spent the last 2 1/2 weeks coming up with plans to redecorate the principal's office.

On Thursday, May 22, they presented their plans to Associate Principal Brenda Jensen, who will take over as the school's principal in the fall.

“I am so impressed,” Jensen told the group after hearing a little bit about each one. “I’m excited to get started.”

Students submitted a wide array of ideas to spruce up the principal’s office.

Some proposed purchasing new furniture and accessories, such as simple white curtains for the window, a massage chair for the principal as well as a water feature to "drown out the noise of the hallways."

Others were frugal in their approach, proposing Jensen keep the existing furniture and simply update it by applying a deeper stain and nickel drawer pulls.

Everyone agreed the hodgepodge of school photos that currently decorate every wall in the office must be streamlined.

"It's too cluttered," said one student.

"It's overwhelming ... and stressful," agreed another, suggesting Jensen limit the photographs to a single wall.

The associate principal agreed the office could use some work and hopes to incorporate pieces of each design plan into her new office.

"My goal is to take a little bit from everybody," she said. "It would be difficult for me to choose one (design)."
